Laser Treatment for Spider Veins

What Is Laser Treatment For Spider Veins?

Laser treatment for spider veins has been found to be one of the quickest and most effective procedures to treat and completely remove unwanted spider veins. Unlike most treatment options, laser treatment for spider veins is completely non-invasive, painless, and requires no recovery time.

Often considered to be the best treatment for spider veins located on the face, laser treatment is also a treatment option for spider veins located on other parts of the body, and is also used to treat small sections of veins in the legs.

Using an intense, focused beam of light, laser treatment for spider veins safely heats the pigment in the blood and destroys the affected spider vein; the process is completed without damaging the skin and surrounding tissues.  After treatment, the vein is reabsorbed into the body, disappearing roughly four to six weeks after the laser treatment for spider veins procedure.

Spider Vein Laser Treatment Procedure

Laser treatment for spider veins is a non-invasive laser procedure that applies an intense medical laser through the skin and directly into the spider vein being treated.

Prior to applying the laser, a cooling gel is applied to the treatment area.

Most often used to treat spider veins located on the legs and face, the laser targets hemoglobin molecules in the blood, gradually heating them to the point that the vein is destroyed and sealed off.  During the procedure, and as the laser fires, it’s common for patients to experience a sensation often described as similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin.

Depending on the location and size of the spider vein, laser treatment for spider veins takes roughly 20-minutes to an hour to complete.

The treated spider vein is then reabsorbed by the body over a period of two to six-weeks.

Laser Spider Vein Treatment Recovery

Unlike most spider vein treatment options, laser treatment for spider veins does not require any downtime as part of the recovery process; in other words, it is safe to resume normal daily activities after the laser treatment is completed.

Immediately after receiving laser treatment for spider veins, it’s common for spider veins to appear darker and more pronounced; most patients will also experience some redness and swelling around the treatment area.  It’s also normal to experience a slight stinging or burning sensation, similar to a mild sunburn, around the treated area.  Any discomfort associated with laser treatment for spider veins should disappear within a few days after receiving treatment.

Over the two to six-week period after treatment, spider veins will start to fade away before eventually completely disappearing.

Spider Vein Laser Treatment Cost

The cost of laser treatment for spider veins often depends on the number of veins that need to be treated. The cost of laser treatment for spider veins is not covered by insurance because it is considered cosmetic. Typically you should expect to pay about $400 per session. Consult a vein doctor for treatment near you.
